Centennial of the 1911 Chinese Revoultion
Description:
2011 marks the 100th anniversary of the 1911 Chinese Revolution, which ended the Qing Dynasty and imperial rule in China. On September 8 and 9, the Confucius Institute at the UM(CIM) and the Asian Division of the Library of Congress are jointly hosting an academic conference to commemorate this historical event: "Encounter of Chinese and Western Cultures and the 1911 Revolution." Day 1(9/8), Thursday, is in the Atrium of the Student Union, from 9-3, followed by a Book Event and Reception in McKeldin Library, Special Events Room, 3:30-5. Day 2(9/9), Friday, is at the Library of Congress (Capitol North metro stop). Keynote speakers for the event include many prominent scholars. Please call or e-mail to RSVP by this weekend!
