Not Just Binationalism: Zionist Alternatives to a Jewish Nation State
Description:
The Joseph and Rebecca Meyerhoff Center for Jewish Studies and The Joseph and Alma Gildenhorn Institute for Israel Studies invite you to a brown bag lunch and talk:
Contrary to traditional Zionist historiography, the Zionist mainstream and the radical members of Brith Shalom shared a basic outlook regarding
Palestines future political complexion that rested on an autonomist but not necessarily a statist -- interpretation of national self-determination. Jewish
self-determination in Palestine was envisaged within a confederational political framework embracing both a Jewish and an Arab autonomous entity.
Dr. Dimitry Shumsky is a lecturer in Israel Studies and the history of modern nationalism in the Department of the History of Jewish People and
Contemporary Jewry at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.
