Beyond the Classroom presents "Taking Root: The Vision of Wangari Maathai"

Description:
Can a citizen with a vision make a difference? How did women come together to plant trees and to lead to a movement for democratic change in Kenya? Taking Root tells the dramatic story of the Kenyan Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, Dr. Wangari Maathai, whose simple act of planting trees grew into a nationwide movement to safeguard the environment, protect human rights and defend democracy. Dr. Maathi died of cancer on Sunday, September 25, 2011, but her visionary work continues with the Green Belt Movement that has planted over 30 million trees and supported over 900,000 women!
