Arboretum Talk: Forest Gardening and Agroforestry

Join us to learn about agroforestry, a new idea in sustainable agriculture. Modeled on natural woodlands, forest gardens produce food, such as perennial herbs, vegetables, flour, fruits and nuts; and wood and other fiber for building, crafts and fuel; while doing all the other great things ecosystems do, like cooling air, building soil, cleaning water, and supporting wildlife. Our speaker, Lincoln Smith runs Forested, a forest garden research and education company in Maryland. {Will appear in FYI on Oct 3, 2011
