"American Sabor-U.S. Latinos Shaping Popular Music": The Possibilities of Public/Digital Humanities Post-911?

Description:
Dr. Michelle Habell-Pallan, Associate Professor in the Department of Gender, Women & Sexuality Studies at the University of Washington in Seattle and author of Loca Motion: The Travels of Chicana and Latina Popular Culture and co-editor of Latino Popular Culture (both NYU Press), will speak on her work as guest curator of the exhibit American Sabor: Latinos in U.S. Popular Music at the Smithsonian Institution and digital/musical collaborations. She facilitates the Women Who Rock Research and Digital Oral History Project (womenwhorockcommunity.org) and makes music in the Seattle Fandango Project. {Will appear in FYI on Oct 16, 2011
