Beyond the Classroom presents "Independent America: The Two Lane Search for Mom & Pop"

Forty years ago, Mom & Pop stores were an endangered species as corporate retail advanced through the consumer heartland of the United States. But today, small business is clawing its way back as American citizens look to declare their economic independence as local communities in the face of daunting globalization and the rise of large corporations. The stage is set for an incredible battle already underway between retails David and Goliath. Independent America: The Two Lane Search for Mom & Pop uncovers growing discontent across the country among economists, community activists, political leaders, entrepreneurs, and concerned citizens about the quality of life in their local communities. Independent America shines an important and timely spotlight on how to strengthen Main Street in the face of the economic crisis.
