Pedro Cabiya's Caribbean Gothic

Description:
Néstor E. Rodríguez is Associate Professor of Spanish at the University of Toronto. Born in the Dominican Republic, he grew up in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He is the author of Escrituras de desencuentro en la República Dominicana, which has been translated into English as Divergent Dictions: Contemporary Dominican Literature (2010). In addition, he has published two poetry collections, Animal pedestre (2004) and El desasido (2009). In this presentation he will investigate the apathy that oozes from the protagonist in Pedro Cabiya's Malas hierbas (2010), a novel about a zombie who is obsessed disguising his true nature.
