A book discussion on Malcolm X: A Life of Reinvention

African American Studies Department at the University of Maryland, College Park will host a discussion based on the book Malcolm X: A Life of Reinvention by Manning Marable. The discussion will center on the following: 1) What would be Malcolm's analysis of the prison industrial complex or the New Jim Crow in the 21st century? 2) Comments on Manning Marable's book. 3) The role of women in Malcolm X's movement. Women have often been neglected in this discussion. 4) Aligning of similar philosophies/ideologies between Malcolm/MLK particularly towards MLKs death. 5) US Military Industrial Complex particularly in the Middle East and Africa. 6) President Obamas presidency. The program will include statements from our illustrious panelists, a moderated discussion, and questions from our audience and conclude with light refreshments.
