Mexican activism and the Internet: The case of Movimiento 5 de Junio

This talk analyzes the role of technology and the Internet as tools to promote social activism and policy change in Mexico. Movimiento 5 de Junio is a social movement that developed to address the tragedy at the ABC childcare facility in Hermosillo on June 5, 2009 where 49 babies died in a fire due to administrative negligence. The response to this tragedy illustrates the civic strategies developed in response to the absence of a political and legal framework and lack of justice in the case. {Will appear in FYI on Feb 6, 2012
