David Simon (Dean's Lecture)

Description:
A 1983 graduate of the University of Maryland and former editor-in-chief of The Diamondback, David Simon is also an award-winning journalist and producer known for gritty dramatic works that capture the best and worst of human nature. "Learning to catch how people really talk is the way you show what's true in everything," he says. Join us for a candid conversation with this passionate, irascible former crime reporter for The Baltimore Sun whose two works of narrative non-fiction about those experiences became award-winning television series: The Corner, an HBO miniseries that won three Emmy Awards and a passionate fan following and NBC's critically acclaimed Homicide: Life on the Streets. Tremé, Simon's current project at HBO, centers on a group of local musicians in post-Katrina New Orleans. He also writes for The New Yorker, Esquire and the Washington Post, among other publications. {Will appear in FYI on Feb 9, 2012
