Personal Accounts by Women in SNCC: A Civil Rights Forum

Description:
Panelist will include former Student NonViolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) activists & contributors to the book, Hands on the Freedom Plow (Sept. 30, 2010). Dr. Joyce Ladner a civil rights activist, author, and sociologist who was the first woman president of Howard University; Ms. Constance Curry, civil rights activist, and prizewinning author, and the first white woman appointed to the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committees (SNCC) executive board; and Ms. Martha Prescod Norman Noonan, community organizer, activist, homemaker, and teacher of history including the civil rights movement. The program will focus on key issues, specifically those that help to explore/correct frequent misconceptions about women in SNCC and often overlooked women including Fannie Hamer and Ella Baker. {Will appear in FYI on Feb 17, 2012
