Denim Day: Wear denim to protest rape and victim blaming
Description:
Based on a victim-blaming Italian Supreme Court decision in 1999 that overturned a conviction because, the Chief Judge argued, because the victim wore very, very tight jeans, she had to help him remove them, and by removing the jeans it was no longer rape but consensual sex. Enraged by the verdict, within a matter of hours the women in the Italian Parliament launched into immediate action and protested by wearing jeans to work, and International Denim Day has been an annual day of protest against victim blaming ever since. So wear denim on 4/25, and tell people why. Join us for Take Back the Night at 6pm in the Hoff Theater.
