Human Genomics and the Legacy of Eugenics (STS Annual Speaker)
Description:
Prof. Alex Stern, Univ. of Michigan, will give a public talk on the cutting edge science of human genomics - and its cultural context, the baggage of the 20th century eugenics movement. Why do we have both hopes and fears about the information of genomics? Because in the past, genetic information has justified social policies and technologies that we now condemn.
Dr. Stern will be speaking on campus on Thursday as well. See the calendar at http://www.sts.umd.edu for full descriptions of all 3 talks.
