"Nickel City Smiler" Film and Discussion

Campaign for Burma presents Nickel City Smiler film and discussion, May 7th at 7:30pm in the Atrium of Stamp. In Burma, Smiler Greely fought against the brutal government, who attacked, tortured, raped and murdered thousands. After spending over 20 years in a refugee camp, Smiler and his family were selected for resettlement to Buffalo, New York. "Nickel City Smiler" documents the struggles of the refugee community in one of Americas poorest cities. Fighting against poverty, violence and bureaucracy, Smiler battles for the hopes and hearts of his people. Following the film, there will be discussion with a former Karen refugee. {Will appear in FYI on May 3, 2012
