The Inclusive Language Campaign

Would you say that if? The Inclusive Language Campaign is a comprehensive, multi-layered campaign launched by the Multicultural Involvement and Community Advocacy Office and the Department of Resident Life to empower our students to reflect on how language impacts others based on class, race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, ability status, sex, and gender identity. Our goals for this campaign are to: " Help students understand that their words have power and impact others sense of belonging on campus. " Provide students with helpful strategies and teach them to engage others about language in a way that creates aha moments. " Help our students understand the impact, origin, and context of words. " Create a student-driven process via focus groups and surveys, so that students can express the power of language in their own words. Watch for a series of buttons, posters, t-shirts, and decals used to highlight and spread this campus-wide message. {Will appear in FYI on Aug 22, 2012
