MCHOTSE - Jesse Oak Taylor, "John Ruskin and Anthropogenic Climate Change"

Description:
Participants will discuss the paper, "Storm Clouds on the Horizon: John Ruskin, Conceptual Emergence, and Anthropogenic Climate Change." "Smog was coined in 1905 to name a climatic phenomenon produced by industrial modernity. Dr. Taylor's forthcoming book traces smog in genres of fiction: Realism (Dickens), Gothic (Stoker), detective (Conan Doyle), Impressionism (Conrad), and modernism (Woolf).
