MechE Seminar TODAY! - Fluid Mechanical Measurements of Cell-scale Forces: Contractile Force of Vorticella and Rupture Force of Focal Adhesions
Description:
"Fluid Mechanical Measurements of Cell-scale Forces: Contractile Force of Vorticella and Rupture Force of Focal Adhesions "
Presented by: Dr. Sangjin Ryu (University of Nebraska-Lincoln)
Abstract: Assistant Professor Sangjin Ryu will present two studies on cell-scale force measurement using fluid mechanics. The first study employed CFD simulation and microfluidics to measure the force of Vorticella, an ultra-fast protozoan. The second study measured rupture forces of focal adhesions.
Bio: Dr. Sangjin Ryu joined the Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2011. He received his Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2009.
