MAPP Lecture: Craig Spangler, AIA | Kea Distinguished Professor | WEDNESDAY, November 7, 2012 | 6:30pm

Scientific learning and discovery are rapidly changing, challenging the decades-old conventional wisdom of design for science and engineering facilities. Please join us as we welcome alumnus Craig Spangler, AIA and Kea Distinguished Professor, who will discuss issues that are demanding a re-thinking of this building typology. Solving complex scientific problems is no longer the sole domain of the individual researcher, but focuses increasingly on team-based discovery. As disciplines morph into new and profound paths, they suggest different approaches to the traditional academic departmental structure. Response to this dynamic is influencing the organizational patterning of the building type. The consequence of this changing social dimension is a new workplace, encouraging healthy interaction between building users. {Will appear in FYI on Nov 5, 2012
