"How (not) to Read the Cannibal Manifesto?"

Description:
In this talk, Professor Madureira will address one of Brazils most influential texts, the Cannibal Manifesto by Oswald de Andrade, and the modernist movement in Brazil. Through a post-colonial studies reading, Madureira reevaluates the movement of Antropofagia (Anthropophagy) and its dialogue with European and Latin American modernisms, challenging notions of intellectual and cultural dependence and peripheral modernism that abound in the critical works surrounding this literary movement in Brazil. Sponsored by SPAP, SLLC, and LASC. Also Prof. Madureira will have a conversation with Prof. Z.
