TODAY! Development Circle presents: "Tensions of Transitional Justice in Indonesia" with Dr. Leslie Dwyer

Description:
Development Circle presents: "Tensions of Transitional Justice in Indonesia" with Dr. Leslie Dwyer, Assistant Professor at the School for Conflict Analysis and Resolution (S-CAR) at George Mason University. In Indonesia, the state-sponsored violence of 1965-66, in which an estimated 1 million civilians were massacred as alleged communists, continues to shape collective and individual memories, and to ground political claims. Based on a decade of extensive ethnographic research in Bali, Leslie Dwyers talk will discuss the social and political complexities of post-conflict transformation, focusing on the eclectic memory practices that Balinese have used to address legacies of violence and the frictions between these practices and globalized models of transitional justice.
