MPRC Seminar: Orphans in Tanzania: From Childhood to Adulthood

Description:
Kathleen Beegle, Senior Economist, Development Research Group, World Bank About the Talk: The loss of a parent when young is considered a major risk factor for poverty in adulthood. Yet there is scant evidence on the long-run impacts of orphanhood in low-income setting with few public safety nets. This work uses data from a 19-year longitudinal survey in Tanzania to explore the range of channels through which losing a parent can have lasting impacts. It builds on work that explored the impacts on early adulthood, drawing on the latest round of the longitudinal study. {Will appear in FYI on Feb 28, 2013
