Preparing for Academic & Non-Academic Careers: The Job Search Process (for ARHU Graduate Students)

Description:
*This event is for graduate students in the College of Arts & Humanities Julie Miller Vick, Senior Career Advisor at the University of Pennsylvania, columnist for the Chronicle of Higher Ed, and co-author of the Academic Job Search Handbook. We will discuss how new and recent PhDs can be strong candidates for faculty jobs including determining readiness to go on the market and understanding the job market cycle, preparing written materials for the job search and preparing for interviews (including the job talk), and negotiating and accepting offers. We will also explore pursuing non-faculty career paths including assessing skills, learning about career options, and connecting with employers and applying for jobs. There will be time for questions throughout the talk. {Will appear in FYI on Sep 30, 2013
