Wellness Tip of the Week: Avoid Bad Posture during the Holidays

Your posture may be the last thing on your mind as the holiday season approaches, but just take a moment to consider all of the situations you might find yourself in where poor posture is all too easy -- wrapping gifts, cooking, riding in the car, or juggling luggage. Whenever possible, sit tall with your core muscles engaged and your shoulders back and down. Keep all materials wrapping supplies, ingredients within easy reach to avoid awkward stretches. When youre in the kitchen, prep meals on a surface thats not too high or too low. Stack cutting boards or use a stool to adjust. In the car, sit with your legs uncrossed and your feet flat on the floor. You may want to sit on a folded blanket or a pillow to keep your knees slightly lower than your hips and relieve pressure on your lower back. Push your wheeled luggage in front of you for better control, and if your luggage doesnt have wheels, use a cart. {Will appear in FYI on Nov 20, 2013
