Grading in the American system and offering effective feedback

Description:
Grading is often a source of anxiety and stress for international Teaching Assistants because the American grading system is often different from that of other countries. Grading with accuracy and fairness can take a lot of time for international Teaching Assistants due to their different educational backgrounds. This coffee hour will introduce the American grading system, place an emphasis on strategies that can decrease the stress of grading for TAs, and provide suggestions for how to provide meaningful feedback to students and reduce student complaints about grading. {Will appear in FYI on Nov 20, 2013
