Plant Sciences Special Seminar 2/17/14 at 1:00pm in PLS 2107/2109: EmPower Ecuador: An Assessment of Community vs. Societal Water Needs in Ecuador

When: Monday, February 17, 2014 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM Where: PLS 2107/2109 We will illustrate an ongoing undergraduate project which is assessing the irrigation water needs of rural communities in the Dulcepamba watershed in Southern Ecuador. An interdisciplinary team of undergraduate students spent a winter-term study abroad on the ground, working with a Fulbright Scholar to gather information from the affected communities, and establishing real-time weather stations for crop model development during 2014. The results of this study will be used by the community to fight for the return of water rights that have been abrogated by a hydroelectric project on the main river of the watershed.
