Performance of "The Prairie"

C. Paul Heins (DMA candidate, choral conducting) will present a performance of Lukas Foss' cantata THE PRAIRIE for his dissertation project, on FEBRUARY 28 at 8 PM in the Memorial Chapel (admission is free). Paul is joined by soloists Katie Baughman, Caitlin Redding, Brian Wallin, and Jim Krabbendam, plus a 40-voice SATB choir comprised of UMD choristers and DC-area community singers and 22 university instrumentalists. The Prairie is the 1944 prize-winning setting of Carl Sandburg's poem of the same name, from Sandburg's 1918 anthology Cornhuskers. This piece put Foss on the map as one of the preeminent American composers of the twentieth century.
