The New Welfare Bureaucrats: Entanglements of Race, Class, and Policy Reform

Description:
Dr. Celeste Watkins-Hayes will discuss her ethnographic analysis of the implementation of welfare reform on the front lines of service delivery. She investigates how professional, racial, class and community identities of welfare caseworkers and supervisors shape the implementation of policy and other organizational dynamics. Qualitative Research Interest Group (QRIG) is a working group of faculty and graduate students who use qualitative methods in their work. Central to the work of this group is a focus on intersectional dimensions of inequality and their relation to social justice and raising the profile of qualitative methodologies as a core component of a research design. {Will appear in FYI on Sep 30, 2009
